Health insurance for foreigners – COVID-19 coverage
(Prague, 29 July 2020) To address frequently received questions, Maxima insurance company wishes to issue the following statement for clients who have arranged or will arrange the MaxMedical Health Insurance for Foreigners. The insurance (for comprehensive as well as necessary and urgent care) naturally also covers costs related to the new COVID-19 disease, including necessary examinations as well as potential hospitalisation under the standard prices of the public health system and to the extent defined in the corresponding general insurance terms and conditions.
Maxima pojišťovna, a.s. pays for the COVID-19 test only if it has been prescribed by a doctor or the Hygiene Station due to an acute deterioration in the client’s health or confirmed contact with a person infected with COVID. In the case of an arrival from abroad, the COVID-19 test is paid for by clients! However, we strongly urge clients to respect the government’s quarantine regulations, not to visit high-risk areas, and to comply strictly with all state administration instructions. Clients who will be tested because they are showing symptoms of the coronavirus will have to provide to the insurance company a proof of payment (which must indicate that it’s for a COVID-19 test), a medical report where the testing is ordered or a copy of the request for the test issued by a doctor or a hygiene centre.
Clients who are showing symptoms but do not visit a doctor and only handle the situation over the phone must provide a proof of payment stating that this was a test ordered by a doctor or a hygiene centre. If the request from the doctor or the hygiene centre was sent by e-mail, this e-mail must be provided. We would like to note that the insurance does not apply for example to any damages caused by an illness or injury the causes or symptoms of which occurred before the insurance policy was concluded.
If stated in the insurance policy, the insurance also covers the costs of necessary and urgent medical care in a country in the Schengen area outside the Czech Republic if the insured person’s health condition suddenly deteriorates. The insurance coverage applies only to tourist stays of the insured person (where no gainful activity is carried out, including short-term); the duration of any individual stay may not exceed 30 days.
